KONMARI METHOD EXTREME HOME DECLUTTER | KONDO BEFORE AND AFTER CLEAN HOME | Nesting Story

Published on Aug 9, 2017
Konmari Method has changed my life. I recently realized that I have been feeling so stressed because I was drowning in stuff. Watch me declutter my entire house using the Konmari method (Marie Kondo) organization to declutter and organize everything kondo style for a clean home. I will be showing you a before and after of my home. Hopefully this will inspire you to declutter your home too!
In the months leading up to this purge we donated many carloads of items to the salvation army and local groups I found on Facebook. But a lot of it was turned away. So we hired 1-800-Got-Junk (not sponsored) and the truckload they took away at the end of the video was taken to their warehouse where they sort it, donate, recycle and then dispose of the remaining items. Although going this route was a bit more expensive then us just driving it to the dump, I felt better knowing that it would go to the proper place.

  • DONATING: Hi Everyone, I am getting a lot of questions and comments about throwing our stuff away versus donating. I should have mentioned this in video!

    • +Flower4229 I hate when other people are selfish and wasteful!

    • Cheers for the Video! Apologies for chiming in, I am interested in your opinion. • Excellent Video clip! Apologies for butting in, I am interested in your thoughts. Have you ever tried - Mahorrla Control Clutter Method (google it)? • Lovely Video! Apologies for butting in, I would appreciate your thoughts. Have you heard the talk about - Mahorrla Control Clutter Method (search on google)? It is a great one of a kind product for decluttering your home without the hard work. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my friend Sam after many years got great results with it.

  • I've been having this overwhelming feeling myself. It occurs every so often but all of a sudden, I just feel like I'm completely drowning. And it doesn't help that I'm in the military, so we are forced to keep things that we don't necessarily use all the time. And they also have given us this mentality of "what if I need this later?" and it's literally haunting me. Prior to my last deployment, I got rid of EVERYTHING! I came back to a very empty house and I felt so free! But then, what happens: I filled it! And I mean FILLED IT! And now I'm stuck again. It's just this terrible cycle...I really need to get after this!

  • Isn't a whole book about decluttering clutter in itself? Surely it's as simple as "have you used it in a year?" -> no -> it goes. Depending on your goal, you can replace "year" with "6 months" or "month" for a more radical outcome. As to where it goes, you make three piles: hand-me-downs for family/friends, charity, recycling, trying to keep a fourth pile "landfill" as minimal as possible.

  • I'm worried you're calling stuff garbage when it is not garbage at all. Please DONATE!

  • My entire house is tge size of his kitchen lol

  • great, amazing

  • THANK YOU FOR KEEPING IT REAL.

  • Well done. I have only lived in small homes/spaces so I can only imagine the task ahead of you. Here in Australia we did spring cleans each year And another good clean and tidy before Christmas. I am good at organising but I didn't realise I was just playing tetris with my 'stuff' until I found decluttering almost two decades ago. I am still decluttering but now it is Margareta Magnusson's Swedish Death Cleaning as we transition to retirement. TRUTH BOMBS THAT STAY WITH ME TO THIS DAY: Maree Kondo... Ask does it Spark Joy? Get it all out and touch it. We already have everything we need to get organised. Peter Walsh... Like with like. How much is enough. Don't put it down, put it away. A horizontal surface is NOT a storage solution. Keep the surfaces 80% empty and only fill the storage to 80%. Take it all out and only put it back when you actually use it...often. You can't fit five cubic meters of stuff into three cubic meters of space. Your kitchen table is your measure for your treasure...as it is scaled to suit your house. Valentino [I think] to Oprah... If it doesn't make you feel like a million dollars why are you wearing it? Netflix series Consumed... Take all your non essentials to a warehouse and live without it for two weeks. Choose only 25% to take back home. [It is more than enough if you do the maths...we use 20% of our stuff 80% of the time so we'd still have 5% more than we need.] Unknown... Keep the best, ditch the rest. It's not about getting it out, it's about how easy is it to put away. Use it, and if you find you don't love it, find one that you will love to use. Reframe the old saying if you don't use it, loose it to if you have it, use it. Trash Treasure Transfer: Do the obvious with trash. Is it a treasure - ask your children if they really want to inherit it. Ask of each item - would I want to transfer this to a new home, life...across town, state, country or the ocean?

  • As an American this lady's house is Queenlike, your average person does not have that much space, stuff, or quality

  • Great job!!!

  • LOL. When you show something for people to BE ABLE TO READ IT, do not wave it around to where it is impossible to see or read. Hold it still. I had to rewind 3x to get it to where I could see it and freeze frame the title and it was still blurry. Just saying...

  • where is all of the stuff you got rid of? You should do a purge pile to see how much is gone.

  • You should do naked declutter videos to come closer to you inner self!

  • Well I found free $6315a money making system that is really working:(just go to) greatworks.club/?HnyIW Great work...

  • Not certain about the points made but ,if anyone else is searching for organizing home try Stiklind Fast Declutter Fixer (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some awesome things about it and my mate got cool results with it.

  • Thank you for this..I have realised that we are unable to resist a bargain so I have been avoiding going to shops and malls and do other activities instead.... Donating is getting more selective as well so we must get rid of the stuffs.... we are been manipulated by the consumerism guru.... so glad that you have inspired me as well.

  • Omg!!! Loved video. CAN I PLEASE PLEASE ASK WHAT COLOR BLUE PAINT THAT IS ON ONE OF YOUR WALLS, NOT SURE IT WAS BEHIND A FRENCH DOOR, THATS THE COLOR IM LOOKING FOR FOR MY BEDROOM. we had a chimney leak, I believe things happen for a reason, I used to keep my home BEAUTIFUL....now kids are in college and it’s time to PURGE BIG! I really appreciate, it’s hard for me to find the right shade of soft blue. THANK YOU SOO MUCH 👍😊

  • Oh my goodness!!! Love this! I can totally relate! I stumbled randomly on to your video and my heart was so full and energized after watching! We have 3 kids (including twin boys, yay twin moms!) and I’ve been feeling so stressed lately... working on purging our home! Thanks for the inspiration!

  • Your skin looks amazing!

  • She got sick with all the dust she stirred up. Worth it though!

  • I know you got rid of alot of stuff but there's still so much. It stresses me out lol

  • Did I miss it...? Idk but I don’t think I heard anything about buying less in this video in order to stop having so much crap.

  • But in general - SUPER!!!!!!!!!!

  • everything is JUST PERFECT!!! The only thing - mey be to keep wine somewhere higher :) so that your children can't taste it earlier :))))))))))

  • LOL you announcing hardcore AFTER your kids toys.. and I already thought that was hardcore excessive.

  • I need to do a purge of some closets too! Thanks for sharing - maybe I will do a video on it!

  • Watching this for motivation. My house is half your size and I have half the kids lol so that’s an encouraging takeaway😊😊 beautiful home you have xxx thank you

  • Just plain honest, this bought tears to my eyesm, your honesty was so surelle. I strive for minimalism, i find it to always be a work in progress and i am living withh one other person. Seems as though hoarding ran in my family, i never considered my self one a hoarder because my stuff was pretty and beautifully placed, i bought little things and placed them in closest and put some in tubs, i looked around about 15 years ago and started the process, and i still work on dowbn sizing every time the mailman drops of snail mailm, also work on kitchen products, and clothes. So thank you for your honesty and the beauty of your experience, even with your cold I could still see the enthusiasm to stil get it done, you were now hooked and the weight of airyness cleanes, no clutter spots wasnfuelingn you! all!!! You now seen tgat you did not have to be judged by how much stuff you or yoyr family had, but how you had responsibility over yoyr impulses, an no longer a troll to black Friday events!!! Kudos to you and your bew found life.

  • What's the song at 10:53 ?

  • Huge kitchen and huge amount of cabinet space -

  • skip to 3:55 for the actual tour

  • Ugh. Political ads.

    • Oh geese! I am going to see if I can put controls on ads that are shown. Thanks for letting me know. I live in Toronto so I see very different ads.

    • Governor race, I believe. Thanks. 💖

    • +Nesting Story I am in Missouri at the moment.

    • A political ad showed up?? I’m curious who it was for and where you live?

  • Nice house. It so big. Good job on cleaning, organizing n decluttering.

  • Why women are doing everything alone?

  • I don't understand open shelving and hanging utensils in kitchens. Cleanliness and sanitary utensils are enhanced by keeping things inside cupboards with doors and drawers. This keeps dust, cooking particulates, and germs from settling onto pots, pans, dishes, cups, tumblers, etc. I don't have time to dust off pans and dishes before using them. Sure, open shelving looks chic in glossy magazines, but the reality means much more time and work in day to day living.

  • Positive first: congratulations on taking on this project. I am a firm believer in this approach and mindset. If I could point out one area where you pretty significantly veered away from one of KonMari’s core tenets, it is the concept of organizing by category NOT by room. The idea is that if you go by room, you never truly see all that you have in one category and it is not possible to truly distill what you have down to the bare essentials, or things that ‘spark joy’. But again, what you did is a commendable huge step. Congratulations!!! :)

  • Satisfying

  • Thank you so much for the motivation

  • oh please, until you have goat paths through your home, you aren't a hoarder! LOL Until your nutty mother's room is so bad that weird smells come out of it and you can't convince her to let anyone clean it up .. you aren't in trouble. hee hee

  • ❤️👌🏻🇨🇦 Thanks sooo much from Montreal, Quebec

  • Kudos to you for showing everything as is and for making and sharing this.

  • @ 0:35... Omg your life must be so hard!

    • Skipped to the end... Yep, I was right. Smh.

  • I'm enjoying this video, Sat., Aug. 18, 2018.

  • Clutter can defs cause anxiety and STRESS! ive also had it and purging has helped me soo much

  • I never looked back after doing COMPLETE open shelving in my kitchen, it's a fabulous idea and it keeps you saving only what you need! Plus you still have cabinets on the bottom

  • Awesome job!!!! Inspiring!

  • Girlfriend, you were in no way borderline hoarding. I am cleaning out a hoarder. Where we started on Monday is where we will start back in next Monday. It is just him and me so I am in no way going to take stuff to him to ask if it's a donate. He is, for the first time in ten years, letting me free to clean and help him move. We bon-fire or we keep and box up. Furniture is broken under the weight of piles for years. I wear gloves and change them every day. But he is somehow trusting me to help him. I am sooo happy he is letting me help him now.

  • Just watching this now. What is your paint colour on your main floor? It is beautiful. Thanks. Great job decluttering.

  • I’m motivated! Thank you! Great job!

  • Sorry but your house is very clean and organized already!

  • While this is a great video I would love to see vids like this by people who live in normal houses. It seems like the majority are rich people just getting rid of their excess crap. What about people who are broke to begin with? Can anyone suggest channels of normal people doing this? Her house does not need renos. At ALL. What a waste. Minimalism isn’t about renovating because you don’t like the look of something. Yikes.

  • I just read this book and I resonate with this method so much.

  • You have a beautiful home. Thank you for sharing your home.

  • Nice Video clip! Apologies for chiming in, I would love your thoughts. Have you thought about - Mahorrla Control Clutter Method (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now)? It is an awesome exclusive guide for decluttering your home without the hard work. Ive heard some decent things about it and my mate got amazing results with it.

  • Thanks for the Video clip! Apologies for the intrusion, I would love your thoughts. Have you heard about - Mahorrla Control Clutter Method (probably on Google)? It is a good exclusive product for decluttering your home without the headache. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my m8 finally got great success with it.

  • Appreciate Video clip! Excuse me for butting in, I would love your initial thoughts. Have you ever tried - Mahorrla Control Clutter Method (probably on Google)? It is an awesome one of a kind guide for decluttering your home without the headache. Ive heard some great things about it and my cousin finally got cool success with it.

  • Wow.... I am going to be watching your videos and taking notes!!! They way your cabinets is actually how every flat surface looks in my house. Plus.. nothing matches in my home. Most of it came from Salvation Army or goodwill or were hand me downs.... So... I have started purging... one small area at a time. Thank you for the info.

  • I agree with someone who said instead of open kitchen cabinets just change the cabinet doors to glass. One thing to make closets look neater is to use uniform hangars. The felt hangers are really good, especially if they’re all black and u don’t get the cheap weak ones. They make little pink felt hangars for kids clothes. Inside cabinets anywhere u can find Dollar Tree bins to group items so they aren’t loose knocking around.

  • Wow kudos to you! Inspiring when you set your mind to it and stick with it to the finish

  • Excellent job

  • Omg, your basement is bigger than my whole entire apt! Geeze... 🤤 No wonder my house seems so cluttered, I live in a freakin shoe.. lol 😧

  • Love this video

  • I feel better just watching you purge! Haha

  • I would recommend goodbye things by fumio sasaki. It's really good.

  • Good for you! Great honest piece.

  • You have such a gorgeous house!

  • Yes, I’m with you. Clutter stresses me out as well. When i de-clutter I feel a lot lighter. I love everything organised.

  • Great work! Large homes are challenging to clear in one big effort. Interesting that you got a “full-on” cold. Perhaps your body was purging as well.

  • We ave so far purged about 50% of our stuff over 6 months. We are retiring soon after living in our current house 28 years. We have no kids. I want to let go of even more because the house we are moving from STILL has too much . We were able to move into a home that is open concept that we were rehabbing the last 8 years so we slowly moved stuff into it which showed us what we needed and wanted the least and what had to go. It is so freeing to let it go. We tried to sell at a garage sale which was such a pain, and at the end of it we took everything to Goodwill so it would not end up back in the house. Good stuff, just not needed or wanted. In the end I estimate we will let go of 70% of our things. I let go of so many clothes it was unbelievable. Most interesting of all....we don’t miss any of the things we let go of. I finally can breathe again!

  • Advise for stacking Tupperware is to not separate them from their lids. Simply, put the lid on them, and stack them on top of each other. They will fit. I promise! Everyone has this preconceived idea that you need to stack them inside the other, but that's how lids get lost or mismatched. I have been stacking them with their lids on, biggest ones on the bottom, and have never had any problems. I also switched to all glass as it is better for the environment, warming in the microwave, and dishwasher safe.

  • While I love Marie Kondo, I am more of aslobcomesclean.com kinda girl. She wrote a book about drowning in clutter and it helps to see what your life really needs and how the stuff stops you. You are awesome to watch and inspire me just as much as those two ladies.

  • Great!! Proud of you. You showed it all!! Your an inspiration

  • Sounds like my daughter..good luck

  • Good job! Such a satisfying effect :)

  • Shoving stuff in a cabinet is not decluttering, it's a fake declutter..lol.

  • Did I see a pic of “Farmhouse On Boone”’s bedroom? I love her farmhouse and her videos! I need to go on the declutter journey as well. Have done some smaller more manageable projects. Hang in there. Sheri

    • I see this is an older video. How have you been keeping it up?

  • Floating shelves next to a range are grease-catchers. Why not put glass into the doors of your upper cabinets, displaying your pretty things and, at the same time, keeping them clean. Plus, you don't know what you're going to find behind those wall cabinets when/if you take them down. Also, floating shelves are all the rage now, but in a few years they won't be. You'll be stuck with greasy open shelving and bereft of all those nice wall cabinets you did away with. Just a thought!!

  • I’ve never heard of Salvation Army and Goodwill turning items away

  • I feel like you're saying how I have been feeling. I spent the weekend decluttering and I feel so much better!! One room at a time, aha !!!!

    • Nesting Story, 💓💓💓 yes!!!!

    • Isn’t it amazing? We decluttered our garage on the weekend... what a game changer

  • A friend of mine asked me to help with her home years shes a hoarder it's been 6wks we got the living room semi done & since then the other rooms got worse

  • I admire what you are doing! I can relate! I’m in this process and the more I purge or pair down, the better I can breathe! Decluttering feels so freeing! Great video!! Thanks for sharing!

  • Just found your channel! I will be getting the book in a couple days! I am discarding my kitchen cabinets as i found your channel! Needed this! Will be subscribing. I know I’m almost a year late. Will be binge watching them all! Thanks for the inspiration! Your home is beautiful! Less is more! 😊♥️

  • I want my house to look like a picture out of a magazine

  • Kudos for the Video clip! Apologies for butting in, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you heard about - Mahorrla Control Clutter Method (google it)? It is a good one of a kind guide for decluttering your home without the hard work. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my close friend Aubrey after a lifetime of fighting got amazing results with it.

  • Great video content! Apologies for the intrusion, I am interested in your thoughts. Have you considered - Mahorrla Control Clutter Method (just google it)? It is an awesome exclusive guide for decluttering your home minus the normal expense. Ive heard some awesome things about it and my old buddy Taylor after a lifetime of fighting got cool success with it.

  • Nice Video clip! Excuse me for butting in, I am interested in your opinion. Have you heard the talk about - Mahorrla Control Clutter Method (Sure I saw it on Google)? • Keep the Nutella!!!

  • I've been studying ways to de-clutter easily and found a great resource at Nilah declutter tips (check it out on google)

  • There are several components to how to declutter fast . One resource I discovered which succeeds in merging these is the Nilah declutter tips (google it if you're interested) without a doubt the most incredible resource that I have ever seen.look at the super information .

  • I have 4 kids 3 and under and including twins and I feel like you say at the start drowning in stuff my bank holiday weekend will be spent getting rid of junk maybe then my life won't be spent constantly cleaning 🙈 thank you for sharing your tips xx

  • I clicked the link because it said it was the KonMari method but this is not at all her method. You may consider changing the title of the video because it’s basically false advertising.

  • This is the first video that I have watched of yours and I’m hooked! I can’t wait to see more.

  • Man I love purging like that

  • Loved the video But she said in the book to discard by category and you discarded by place

  • Looks great! Have you been able to keep up with it? I need to declutter like crazy. We have SO much crap everywhere!

  • I have so much anxiety watching this

  • How To Declutter Your Home Almost Immediately! Regain Order In Your Life And Home. Know The Joy And Power Of Order. Find Out Why Thousands Have Raved About This Book Since 2006! tinyurl.com/yalqr5ax

  • What camera do you use?

  • You were in real deep! A lot of people don't get to this point until they move...or die. So pretty amazing to see you make the time to conquer this- I know your family will appreciate it in the long run! My family never decluttered our house until we moved (after 23 years of living in it)...it was the worst. My father wanted to get rid of nothing, so my mom and I snuck things out behind his back haha, and of course he didn't notice. Our basement ended up having mold in it so we had to get rid of most of the stuff down there (that we never used anyway) so it worked out in some ways. Honestly, growing up in a house with so much clutter was so stressful and has made me the kind of person who only buys what they need if they have to. I hope you're able to keep that feeling of freedom going throughout the years; I know it feels so good! Congrats :)
