Retired Navy SEAL Jocko Willink suggested in a Business Insider interview that everyone should wake up at 4:30 a.m. So that's exactly what BI producer Emma Fierberg did for one work week.

  • You could also exercise, prep meals in the night and work until 3AM and get the exact same results as here. However, most jobs start early in the morning for some reason so that wouldn't work for the majority of people. The entire idea of waking up so early is just creating personal time in which other people don't distract you. Whether it's the night or the morning, that just depends on your life situation and personal preference.

  • I wake up every morning seven days a week after sleeping three hours a night and some night no sleep at and get up take my vitamins and eat a granola bar for breakfast head out to the shop at 6:00 and don’t stop until about three pm eat a light dinner then go back to the shop until 6:00 pm come do my book work and plan the day for the guys to work at which job sites, then shower hang with my wife or grand children until 10:30 lay down but dont get to sleep if i do i wake up more time then i sleep, crazy days and night but 2000 milligrams of B12, 1000 mg of fish oil, turmeric, and i am 53 three years old have had leukemia AML twice the first time at 37 years old second time in 2006 19 months in remission then a bone marrow trans plant, also had liver and kidney failure related to the cancer doctor got me back together after blood pressure dropped to 23/12 clinical dead needle through the shin bones and i experience with God, had to learn to get my mother skills back. I am not saying this to Bragg i am telling this because you are never out of the fight, you might get hit here and there but get back into the fight and never ever give up, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13 KJV Bible are have a Warriors Heart so always stay in the fight. Every Seal has that mentality never quit on Joko Willink, Marcus Latrell, Rutt, i watch all the Pod Cast but i have to say Joko is the best but Marcus went to the gates of Hell and took a look and said no not today boys and girls. Go all of Americas Operators with out your Courage and very real discipline the world wont be as good as it is, some of us are Warriors in our own right but God Bless to every service member in the World who makes it happen everyday.

  • This is the most ridiculous video I have ever watched. I am 20 years old and get up at 4:30 everyday to go to work or to take care of the horses. The fact that she thinks she should be celebrating this is annoying and that she thinks waking up at 6:30 is a better time is annoying.

  • I think 430 is not a hard and fast magic time. The biggest thing is to wake up well ahead of the time you normally do and to spring out of bed instantly when that alarm goes off. No laying around or dilly dallying. Alarm rings, you are up and facing the day with enthusiasm, whether its 430 or 730. You should rise early enough to accomplish your morning routine, get some basic daily tasks done like read and reply to your work emails and have a clue whats in store at work, get some physical activity even a little and get to work ON TIME EVERY TIME and not be the last one to arrive. That may require a 430 rise but others might be able to rise at 630 and do the same thing. Some people like to interact with other people, co workers, clients, family etc later in the evening which is fine. You may have to stretch your day to 1030-11 bedtime just do the math. You need 7 hours sleep min. You need to be active and productive throughout your day and accomplish tasks. If you cant do this, waking up early wont help. We dont operate alone in a vacuum and life doesnt stop after our personal bedtime. Just get up earlier, attack your day, avoid distractions and get stuff done. Thats the result we desire, merely waking up at 430 doesnt accomplish anything. If you are good at doing the above, you can do it in 10 hours of your choosing, pick your 10!

  • That's ok if you're in the army as you'll be falling asleep by 8pm.. as nothing happens at that time in the army. But in real life there's things to do from that time on. There's nothing clever about getting up at 4:30

  • Jocko Willink is a jack off. What’s the point of getting up at 4:30 if you have nothing to do that early? You have to get 7.5 to 8 hours of sleep or else you further defeat the point of getting up early by sabotaging your energy levels. So really you’re just taking away from your time in the evening, which is more useful than your time at 4:30 when nobody else is awake and no establishments are open. It’s just so stupid on so many levels and doesn’t make sense for anyone who isn’t a navy seal. I’m not even sure if it’s necessary for actual navy seals or if it’s just something that jocko made up to seem cool. Wouldn’t surprise me.

  • I've been waking up at 4:30 every morning for years now, Go to bed at 10PM, Get 6:30 hours sleep, All good, It's not for everyone though.

  • 430am is a routine, woke up take a bath, reading, 545am pray which includes body stretch in it, 0600am ready for everything 😍, Be positive and discipline feel more human. Why sleep too much as at the end you are going to sleep forever

  • It’s really important to be taking vitamins especially if you’re waking up early. I don’t drink coffee as I don’t want a caffeine addiction. I wake up early and take vitamins I definitely notice the difference when I take them. I don’t feel jittery or crash. I just feel like I have great energy all day. It also helps me get tired when I should be going to sleep.

  • Every person's biology is different. Not every single person is genetically and biologically going to react in a positive way to this schedule.

  • Getting up early doesn't make any difference, all that matters is how many hours a day you are awake and how many of those hours you are productive.
